1970-2010: The Golden Age of Solar System Exploration

Conference in Honour of Prof. Marcello Fulchignoni

Accademia dei Lincei, Rome, Italy
10-12 September 2012

The conference is organized in honour of Prof. Marcello Fulchignoni (University Paris Diderot-Paris 7), who has devoted all of his scientific career to the study and understanding of processes that led to the formation of the Solar System.

Prof. Fulchignoni taught from 1970 to 1993 at the University of Rome "La Sapienza", before moving to Paris.

The topics of the conference concern the evolution of planetary studies in the last 40 years, the philosophy of "in situ" exploration of the solar system, the main results obtained to date with space missions, and the future prospects and horizons.

The conference is open to all scientists from around the world. We particularly expect to welcome those who have shared key moments in the career of Prof. Fulchignoni.

The main topics of the conference are:

1. The Moon: a Harsh Mistress

2. Mercury, Venus, Mars: the terrestrial planet family

3. The Gaseous Giants: Systems in the System(s)

4. Small Bodies: searching for origins

5. What else in the future?
